The 2009 Newark Brass Festival was held over the weekend of 24-25 January 2009 and comprised a brass competition for young musicians and a concert at a venue in Newark, Notts.
Prizes were awarded as follows:
Grade 5-6: Charles Standen (trumpet) of Lincolnshire won 250 pounds, sponsored by Newark Town Band
Grade 7-8: Michael Buchanan (trombone) of Berkshire won 250 pounds, sponsored by Newark Music Club
Conservatoire: Edd Leech (tuba) of Manchester won 250 pounds, sponsored by Notts Carpet Company
The overall festival champion was Michael Buchanan, who in addition to his prize money won a set of mutes donated by festival patron, Denis Wick, the festival trophy and the concerto date with The Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, which will take place at Lincoln's Drill Hall on 14 November 2009.
